Portraits

The assignment for this project was to just go outside and take pictures of people to create portrait images, with a film camera and then we would develop them in the dark room. I took pictures of lots of my friends in interesting ways that spoke to me, I had them pose with props and stand infront of things that would make a nice background, for example, trees, flowers, or a patterned wall, basically anything that I thought would be cute and that I thought would look good on firm and have good contrast and compositions. My friends were great models for me and came up with unique and fun poses or ideas for their portraits (like Jillian holding a flower and hugging a tree) and I am so happy with the portraits I took and the photos I developed. In the darkroom, I made the artistic decision after doing 1 test strip of my first print to use a filter on almost all of my images to create contrast with the blacks and white so my photos didnt just look grey-toned. As I reflect back on this project I am very proud of the prints that I made. I went above and beyond the requirement for the assignment, I did 5 full-size exposures/prints when I only was required to make 2-3, and I am super happy with each and every print that I made, some are better than others, (the photos i took outside came out better than the photos i took inside) but overall they are all great high-quality prints I think. I think that my favorite prints that I made are the print of Jillian holding a flower and Soleil standing in front of the pretty tree.
