For this assignment, we were told to create 5 select color portrait photos using photos we took ourselves and Photoshop to edit our photos. Select color image photos are when all the colors in the image are removed except for a select color or a couple of select colors. We were guided to take photos where the background was not distracting to the photo and the portrait of whomever the portrait was. Using Photoshop we manipulated the photos to make them back and white with only 1 or 2 elements of the image in color still. The subjects of most of my photo creations are my friends, or my friends and myself together. I took portrait photos of my friends, Lila, Rihanna, Jaidyn, and Soley, who were all willing for their photos to be taken. This work was made first by taking several photos on my iPhone and then transferring them to my laptop where I used the Photoshop app to create all 5 of my finished work pieces following the instructions of the assignment

I used a couple of elements and principles throughout my 5 pieces of this specific project. I think that my image of Lila with the little pumpkin on her head, and my Image of Jaidyn, with the big pumpkin in her lap, used the elements of shape, color, and texture nicely. The pop of orange added to the photos nicely, and the shape of the pumpkin was unique to the rest of the things in the images. The texture is seen in the pumpkin itself but I also noticed especially in the pumpkin that Jaidyn was holding that the stem has lots of good texture which is cool to see. The photo of Rihanna shows the elements of color and texture, as well as the principles of movement, emphasis, and pattern. The bright red sweater she is wearing in the image is a great pop of color in the photo, the sweater also has texture within it which adds to the photo because the rest of the photo is in lack, and white looks very untextured so it adds a nice contrast. The sweater not only has texture but also has patterns as well. Since the photo was shot while Rihanna was in mid-motion the photo represents movement within it. I also think that the pop of color of the bright red sweater adds some emphasis to the photo and is the pinpoint for what the viewer's eyes land on first.

The meaning behind my artwork in this assignment and most likely other assignments we have done in this class so far is that I love taking pictures all the time. I love taking pictures of beautiful landscapes and scenery but most of all pictures of my life and what is happening and the people that are closest to me like my friends. I love to take candid pictures of my friends when they are not paying attention to me because I find that those photos often come out the best. I love taking pictures of my friends and what we are doing that show the emotions of the moment I am capturing. In this way, this project definitely connects to my life because I take pictures of what is going on in my life whatever that may be. The photo of Jaidyn is during a Clarion club meeting and those are a part of my life, and the photo of Rihanna, and the photo of Lila, Solely, and myself, were taken at the mall when we were all hanging out this past weekend, which is also showing my life because it's what I like to do with my friends. What I am most proud of in my artwork is the way I captured moments. Both in the photo of Rihanna and the photo of Jaidyn, I feel like they capture a moment, Rhinanas being her in motion or her natural being because she didn't know that I took the photo at all, and Jaidyn because we were laughing together when I took the photo and I feel like you can really see her joyful emotion in the photo. I struggled a little with deciding what parts I wanted to keep in color and what parts I wanted to turn black and white, I think that overall my decisions were good and the images look super cool. I also struggled a little bit with using the Photoshop app because there were some things I didn't understand how to do or my laptop wouldn't allow me to do, but I overcame this struggle.
