Charcoal, Ink, and Graphite on pastel paper

The main idea that guided my artwork was to use materials that I am not all that familiar or comfortable with. I had to draw my pet cat as realistically as I possibly could and work with new and different materials to create shadows and highlights, and my cat's fur with lots of little hairs and lots of details.

The drawing of my cat was made with Charcoal, Ink, and graphite on pastel paper. I created a graph on 18" by  24" pastel paper to enlarge the graph on my printed photo of my cat. I also used a charcoal cloth and some tortillon.

The process to make this started by graphing the printed-out photo I took and then enlarging the graph size on my pastel paper. From there I had begun by choosing I photo I had taken of my dog but soon after I started, I didn't like what I was doing so I switched to a photo of me holding one of my cats. After re-graphing everything I started with this new photo it went much better than the previous one and I really got into the flow much quicker!
