Assemblage Project

Artist Statement:

The story with this art piece was we were assigned to create a sculpture using the materials that we had in our home. I chose to create a lobster, because it is one of Maine's signature animals and I thought it would be a fun challenging piece to create.

This art piece relates to my life because lobster takes a big role in my life. I've grown up with lobster considering that I live in the state of Maine, and because I have friends who are lobstermen. I have always loved lobster because of the unique shape and features, but as a Mainer, I have never really loved the taste.

The process of this piece was to cut out pieces of cardboard in the shape of the animal we chose, and then start to crumple up pieces of tin foil or paper to create the body shape itself and glue it on the cardboard. Then after that, I glues on cut up pieces of different colored paint sample cards to create a cooked lobster look.
