3D Design

Sustained Investigation

3D Design Reflection

Since the start of the school year, I knew I wanted to pursue my art at FHS. I loved taking 2D design and taking foundations my freshman year. I signed up for 3D design not really knowing what to expect when going into it. I was excited and eager to learn how to use new materials and create works that pop out at you.

The project I enjoyed doing the most was the clay scraffito project. I decided to make a turtle for my mom because she loves them so much, and I needed to repay her for breaking her other turtle when I was little. The process going through it was definitely challenging because we were still having remote classes most days of the week, so I had to learn how to make a clay figure from home with no teacher assistance other than a zoom call. I had to re-do my shape many times for it to actually even out and make a round shape. I wanted this to be a fun-looking sculpture that people would be able to look at for hours seeing the minor details I added to it. My favorite part of the entire process was actually doing the scraffito. I loved scratching in designs and making my sculpture finally come to life. It was so cool to see the final product of my shiny turtle. I really enjoyed making it and hopefully I will do it again.

Art relates to my life because art means so much more to me than just drawing some doodles, it impacts me because of the way it impacts others. My favorite thing to do is make art for people. I love seeing their reactions to my work and how grateful they are. It's a boost of serotonin for me and it makes me continue to make artwork that is meaningful to me and others. My sustained investigation was a huge example of that. It surrounded how much my friends and family impact my life and how could I create something for them that shows how I see them through my eyes. I loved taking this class and I am so grateful for how far I have come here at FHS. Mrs. Medsker is an amazing teacher and has been so supportive of me through my projects. I can't wait to see what my future holds for art classes!
