Justice for Breonna

sharpies, graphite pencils,

7" x 10"

Artist Statement:

The story with this art piece was we were tasked to create a art piece that involved the colors red, white, and blue. I decided to create a piece that would mean something to me. I decided to draw a picture of Breonna Taylor.

This art piece relates to my life because earlier this year, I went to my first protest. It opened my eyes to the many issues and injustices that the BLM movement is trying to address and to the many issues in my own high school that I was not aware of. Breonna Taylor deserves justice to what happened to her. George Floyd. Elijah McLain. Jacob Blake.

The process of this piece was to draw out the piece in pencil then add color throughout the drawing. I filled the background so it would fill the negative space. For materials I used sharpies, and black pen. I wanted to have the letters be defined, along with some of her facial features.
