Paper Sculpture

Overwhelmed

Artist Statement:

The story with this art piece was to think of a word that described how your first semester went this year, and my word that I chose was overwhelmed.

This art piece relates to my life because the sculpture represents how I felt and how the weight on my back was a lot for me to handle. I struggled with the workload and having eight classes in my schedule which caused a lot of anxiety for me. Starting the new semester has been fun and has made me feel excited about my new classes.

The process of this piece was getting an idea for how I can show overwhelmed with a sculpture using only paper. I decided to use thicker cardstock like paper to have the person be able to stand up and stay slumped over, and be able to carry the load of the "rocks" on top of it's back.
