Insecurity #3

Artist Statement:

For my investigation, I want to highlight insecurities and show their beauty.

For this next insecurity, I wanted to highlight braces. I was personally affected by this insecurity, and it really made me upset with my smile. I never smiled with my teeth because I hated the way they looked. I wanted to highlight the colors of the brackets to make them more noticeable unlike trying to hide them.

For materials, I used graphite pencils to first sketch it out. I then went over the work in pen. I continued to use my watercolor markers to show the brightness of the braces along with the lips. I also used a white gel pen to create highlights to show the shininess of the lips, along with creating a background that tried to show the lips being almost 3D.
