Artist Statement:
The story with this art piece was we were assigned to create an art piece that has a message to consider "Organ and Tissue Donation" for people who need a new organ or tissue.
This art piece relates to my life because my uncle was donated a kidney when he needed a transplant badly, and for years we would do kidney walks for him and golf tournaments for him. Until one day, when my aunt called and told us that my uncle was going to be getting a kidney. It was so exciting for him, and we were so thankful for the person who has offered their organs to help others, and he saved my uncles life.
The process of this piece was to get an idea for what could stand out for people who are in a hospital who will be able to see the sign and consider the message. I chose to do a picture of a sea turtle swimming to the surface to the light. Coming out of the darkness to see the surface. The materials I used were watercolor, graphite pencils, and a ballpoint pen.
