The Heads of the departments for English for Humanities, English for Sciences, Math, and IT are responsible for managing all academic and administrative affairs within their respective departments.
Implement decisions made by the Executive Committee.
Supervise the administration of courses within the department.
Keep staff updated on developments and decisions relevant to the department.
Suggest resources and contribute to annual budget planning when required.
Chair departmental committees (including the Departmental Curriculum Committee, Departmental Projects Committee, and the Appeal Committee) in close cooperation with the committee officers representing the department.
Appoint committee officers and assign duties to teaching staff in consultation with the Deputy Director for Academic Programs (DDAP) and the Director.
Contribute to other CPS committees and units as required.
Conduct Course Leaders recruitment interviews when required.
Coordinate course-related matters with colleges and Course Leaders in collaboration with relevant CPS bodies.
Collaborate with the Deputy Directors during the new teacher orientation period.
Conduct faculty appraisals in collaboration with the center administration.
Encourage faculty participation in research and community service activities in collaboration with the Deputy Director for Professional Development and Research (DDPDR).
Chair departmental meetings.
Submit minutes of departmental meetings to the Director, Deputy Directors, and Quality Management Unit (QMU).
Compile and submit end-of-semester reports to the Director, Deputy Directors, and QMU.
Archive and maintain accurate records of all essential documents, including minutes and administrative documents, in accordance with SQU regulations, in cooperation with the department coordinator.
Coordinate staff allocation with the DDAP.
Manage registration and academic issues pertaining to students in the department, in collaboration with the CPS Registration team.
Communicate with the Deanship of Admissions and Registration concerning grade entries, system access, and other related matters.
Resolve conflicts regarding registration authorization for students in credit courses in coordination with the CPS Registration team.
Regularly liaise with the Central Curriculum Committee (CCC) on all relevant curriculum matters of the department.
Promote a conducive teaching environment in collaboration with the CCC.
Ensure the CPS courses do not conflict with college courses.
Oversee the timely submission of department course books and teaching materials to the printshop in cooperation with the department coordinator (after DDAP approval).
Oversee exam preparation, timetabling, administration, and marking of assessments and examinations in collaboration with the AU.
Ensure timely collection of make-up test petitions and end-of-semester student appeals in coordination with the Appeals Committee and the AU.
Liaise with the Student Support Committee to provide additional resources and tutorial support for students.
Respond to teacher requests to address class issues related to discipline or student behavior/misconduct, in cooperation with the Student Affairs Officer.
Sign leave forms for departmental staff.
Work with the department coordinator on department matters.
Perform any other relevant duties as assigned by the Director.
