The Summer Programme has become a standard part of the academic year for both the credit and the Foundation Programme English Language (FPEL). As a result, some teachers are required to work during the 8-week summer term each year. In addition to their normal salaries, staff who teach in the summer will receive extra pay. Currently, teachers in grade D (grade 6 for Omanis) receive 600 rials for each 4-week period, while teachers in grades C and B (grades 5 and 4 for Omanis) receive 800 rials.
The CPS staff members who are not on summer teaching duty or not on leave are expected to maintain normal working hours in the CPS, whether or not they are involved in projects agreed upon between them and the relevant Course Coordinator.
Interested teachers are invited to submit preference forms indicating their interest in teaching or administrative positions for the summer term. The Director, in coordination with the Deputy Directors (DDs), finalizes and announces the selected teachers when the preliminary registration is completed.
A. Summer Coordinator
The appointment is for one summer, renewable for one more year only if no other qualified applicants are available.
Teach 6 hours per week.
Receive RO 50 monthly allowance (unless two Coordinators are appointed, one for credit and one for the FPEL).
Must work the entire summer.
Selected from among current CLs who apply.
Priority is given to the CL with the most recent FPEL experience.
All other things being equal, priority is given to the most senior applicant.
If no CLs apply, teachers with relevant experience will be considered.
B. Teaching Positions
Appointment is for one summer and requires teaching 18 hours regardless of contract hours during the regular academic year.
Priority is given in the following order:
Teachers willing to teach the full summer.
Teachers who have taught the same course in the previous fall and spring semesters.
Teachers who have not taught the same course in the previous fall or spring semesters but have taught it within the last two years.
Notes:
The CPS Director will determine the scheduling of any instructors who may be assigned to teach half of the summer based on programme needs first and teacher preferences second.
Deputy Directors who work during the summer will teach 18 hours.
Teachers who have received a warning or negative student feedback will be given low priority for the summer programme.
