The Department of Student Advising and Registration assists students with registration issues related to their FP and credit courses. The department collaborates with Heads of Academic Departments (HoDs), Course Leaders (CLs), the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, the Deanship of Student Affairs, the Student Counseling Centre, and other university authorities to resolve student-related problems.
Coordinate with Course Leaders (CLs), teachers, Heads of Departments (HODs), and Deputy Directors (DDs) on student academic concerns and complaints.
Work with various departments on timetabling and the allocation of class sections.
Manage student registration issues in collaboration with the Deanship of Admissions and Registration, excluding online registration of credit courses.
Communicate with departments regarding section capacities as needed.
Participate in and assist with the CPS student orientation program.
Participate in SQU orientation period and address inquiries from students and parents.
Upload results from Placement Tests and Exit Tests.
Coordinate with the Academic Records Officer to compile student statistics.
Work with the Center for Information Systems (CIS) on required SIS reports.
Interact with the CIS to enhance operational efficiency.
Collaborate with the office of the Deputy Director for Academic Programs and other departments on arranging exit courses for students with two failing grades (2F).
Organize tests for 2F students, including Math Exit exams, in conjunction with the relevant departments.
Enhance counseling and advising methods through activities aimed at motivating students to improve academically.
Participate in the registration process for credit courses during the Add/Drop period, producing reports on LANC codes, section numbers, colleges, student numbers, and any additional sections needed.
Fulfill any additional duties as requested by the CPS Director, Deputy Director, or Heads of Departments.
The Student Affairs Officer (SAO) is a professional responsible for supporting and enhancing the academic and personal development of students. This role involves identifying students who need academic support (at risk students), and coordinating with various university departments and centers to provide counseling, workshops, and lectures. The officer organizes events that develop key life and academic skills, manages student grievances and complaints, and liaises with faculty to address specific student needs and concerns.
Teach up to twelve hours within the CPS.
Keep continuous contact with departments regarding student absences and performance.
Follow up on social issues that contribute to student absences and poor academic performance.
Address students’ concerns about courses or instructors and refer these issues to the appropriate department heads.
Handle student grievances and complaints.
Support students in overcoming various challenges they may encounter during their university tenure.
Collaborate with the Counselling Centre and the Deanship of Student Affairs to organize workshops and lectures for the CPS students on self-improvement and adjustment.
Work with the Counselling Centre to arrange workshops and lectures for CPS teachers concerning student-related issues.
