The Student Support Committee (SSC) is dedicated to enhancing the educational experience of students at the CPS by facilitating a range of support activities. These activities are designed to extend learning beyond traditional classroom settings and empower students to become effective and autonomous learners. The committee oversees various support centers and programs that contribute to this goal.
The committee is chaired by the Deputy Director for Academic Programs and includes the following members:

Oversee the goals and policies of the SSC, coordinating the smooth implementation of various components.
Supervise all SSC components, such as the Tutorial and Writing Centres, CPS Library, ECA Centre, and the M-Reader Management Unit.
Handle the development and procurement of materials for these entities and teaches up to six hours in CPS courses.
Manage daily operations across all SSC components.
Recruit and train Peer Tutors for English and Math, including mentorship and performance feedback.
Organize classroom visits to promote the Tutorial Centre.
Maintain materials and resources for the Writing and Tutorial Centres.
Oversee the CPS Library and ECA & Self-Access Centre, ensuring the organization and maintenance of resources.
Supervise the M-Reader program and coordinate with faculty for its effective use.
Keep CPS staff updated on all student support services and manage publicity materials to promote these services.
Support the SSU Coordinator in their specialized areas, dedicating four office hours weekly to SSU tasks.
Manage the day-to-day operations of the CPS Library, Writing & Tutorial Centers, and the ECA office.
Assist students in selecting books and finding resources.
Manage book check-ins and check-outs.
Maintain orderly shelving and ensure materials are in good condition.
Support students with M-Reader and manage related administrative tasks.
Open and close the Self-Access Centre daily.
Assist students with checking out and returning study materials.
Maintain the SA Centre, ensuring it is tidy and organized.
Support ECA activities and oversee SA materials on Moodle.
Report to the SA Coordinator for administrative needs and special projects to enhance SA services.
The SSC Coordinator position is advertised via email, requiring a CV and a letter of intent detailing the candidate's experience and contributions to student support services.
Appointments for the Coordinator and committee members are made by the Deputy Director for Academic Programs in consultation with the current Coordinator.
Six Omani staff members, full-time employees of SQU placed under CPS management, run the CPS Library, Writing Centre, Tutorial Centre, and ECA & Self-Access activities.
Writing Centre Consultants are selected from CPS teaching staff for their expertise and undergo mandatory training each semester. They commit four hours weekly to tutoring.
Fifty Peer Tutors, experienced undergraduate students, provide tutorial assistance and undergo a rigorous selection process including interviews and intensive training. They are part-time employees, recognized with certificates for their contributions.
