The Professional Development Committee (PDC) is dedicated to the continuous improvement of faculty work across all disciplines within the CPS. This committee is instrumental in providing professional development opportunities for the CPS staff.
The committee is chaired by the Deputy Director for Professional Development and Research and includes the following members:
A standing member
One to three representatives from each department
Exercise overall responsibility for the professional development programs within the framework of Sultan Qaboos University’s strategic planning.
Coordinate professional development throughout CPS.
Create short-term and long-term plans for professional development events throughout the academic year.
Inform faculty about appropriate career development pathways and qualifications.
Provide a framework for consultations and offer guidance and support to faculty working with new or unfamiliar teaching and learning methods.
Oversee the smooth execution of academic appraisals in liaison with departments.
Identify and suggest training needs and qualifications for CPS staff.
Prepare, advertise, and facilitate professional development events at CPS throughout the academic year.
Investigate professional development opportunities at public and private colleges, universities, and institutions both inside and outside Oman.
Maintain a database of relevant ESL/EFL conferences, symposia, and training workshops available regionally and globally.
Supervise and maintain the PDC webpage on the CPS website, the PDC section on Virtual CPS, and other relevant resources.
Initiate projects aimed at enhancing professional development at CPS.
Prepare an annual report on the activities of the committee and submit it to the Chair.
