Research/Scientific Leave: With the approval of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Service or their designee, faculty members may be granted scientific leave with full salary for up to 28 days.
Conference/Workshop Leave: With the approval of the Vice Chancellor or their designee, employees may be granted leave with full salary to attend conferences, workshops, or exhibitions for up to ten days per academic year.
Leave for Examination Participation: With the approval of the Deputy Vice Chancellor for Academic Affairs and Community Service, faculty members may be granted leave with full salary for up to five days per semester to participate in examinations or thesis discussions at other universities.
Study Leave: With the Vice Chancellor 's approval or their designee, and based on a recommendation from the Training and Scholarship Committee, Omani employees may be granted study leave with full salary for up to four years, with an additional year if necessary, under certain conditions.
Leave for Examinations: Omani employees may be granted leave with full salary to take exams, provided they present a testified certificate of exam attendance. If not, the leave is deducted from their annual leave or considered unpaid leave.
Hajj Leave: Muslim employees are granted special leave with full salary for up to 20 days to perform Hajj, once during their service.
Iddah Leave: Muslim female employees whose husbands pass away are granted special leave for Iddah with full salary for four months and ten days.
Maternity and Childcare Leave:
Omani female employees are granted special leave with full salary for 90 days for childbirth, up to five times during their government service. Non-Omani female employees are granted this leave once every two years, up to twice during their service. If requested before two years, annual leave may be granted if sufficient, otherwise unpaid leave.
Omani female employees may request unpaid leave for up to one year to care for their child, starting immediately after maternity leave, provided the request is made within one year of the end of maternity leave.
Leave to Accompany a Patient: The Vice Chancellor or their designee may grant employees special leave with full salary for up to 15 days per year to accompany a patient. If treatment exceeds this period, additional leave may be granted for up to 30 days for Omanis. Beyond this, it is considered annual leave or unpaid leave if the employee has no leave balance. Medical certification is required.
Leave to Accompany a Spouse: Omani employees are entitled to special unpaid leave for up to four years to accompany their spouse abroad for a mission of at least six months, such as a study, training course, or work assignment. The Vice Chancellor or their designee may extend this leave for up to two years if necessary.
Leave for Representing the Sultanate: Employees selected to represent the Sultanate in cultural or sports events, domestically or internationally, are granted special leave with full salary for the necessary preparation and travel period. Employees participating in official matches are granted special leave with full salary on match days according to the official match schedules.
Exceptional Leave: The Vice Chancellor or their designee may grant employees exceptional unpaid leave for up to one year every five years, provided the employee has exhausted their annual leave and the leave does not conflict with their duties.
