Note: This section applies only to non-Omanis only.
Before staff contracts expire, the CPS Director must notify the Human Resources (HR)whether the CPS intends to renew the non-Omani staff members’ contracts based on their performance. If the Director decides not to renew a contract, he/she will notify both the staff member and HR of this decision. This notification will be done 6 months prior to the expiration of the contract.
Renewals are typically for a period of 24 months, though this may vary. Renewed contracts are not issued or signed; instead, appointment dates are updated in the Personnel database to reflect the renewal or extension of the original contract.
Staff are required to give 3 months’ notice for either resignation before the end of a contract or intention not to renew a contract when it expires. Notice should be given in writing to the Director of the CPS and should include specific dates for the resignation or non-renewal. The Director then provides a cover letter and sends both letters to the Director of HR. If the resignation is approved, the employee is notified and given a copy of the approval, which is necessary to complete the remaining paperwork related to ending employment and leaving SQU.
The Director can request that non-Omani staff contracts be terminated before their expiration. These cases also require 6 months’ notification to the employee, if the decision comes after the initial 3-month probation period.
End of Employment Date: The date you give for your end of employment is not necessarily the same as your last day of work or the day you leave Oman. If you have accrued annual leave, you can normally get approval to take this leave at the end of your employment. For example, if you give six months’ notice on February 25th that you are resigning effective August 25th, and as of August 25th you will have accrued 60 days of annual leave, you could request to take those 60 days starting approximately on June 25th (depending on weekends), extending to and including August 25th. This means June 24th would be your last day of work, and you could leave Oman that evening. Your final pay and gratuity calculations would be based on August 25th as your last day of employment.
Clarification of Arrangements: It is important to clarify these arrangements as much as possible with the CPS Director, Director of Administration, and the Deputy Director Academic Programmes before submitting your resignation letter. Approvals of the arrangements are required. Separate arrangements may also need to be made with the Housing office, depending on when you plan to leave SQU housing relative to your last day of work.
