Entitlement for Omani Employees:
Omani employees are entitled to sick leave as follows:
Six months with full salary.
An additional six months with three-quarters salary.
Sick leave is granted every five years based on a decision from the hospital. If the employee is not cured after the sick leave period, they are referred to the hospital to determine their fitness for work. If found unfit, their service is terminated from the date of unfitness.
Chronic and Incurable Diseases:
Employees with chronic and incurable diseases, determined by a Civil Service Council decision, are entitled to sick leave with half salary and full allowances until recovery or stabilization. If unfit, their service is terminated.
Entitlement for Non-Omani Employees:
Non-Omani employees are entitled to up to 60 days of sick leave per contractual year.
Sick Leave Procedures within Oman:
Medical examination and treatment are provided by government health institutions. Employees may seek treatment at private health institutions at their own expense if they prefer. Sick leave certificates from private health institutions designated by the Minister of Health are accepted. Certificates from other private institutions are accepted for up to three days with a government hospital approval.
Employees must notify their workplace of their illness and visit the nearest hospital for treatment and necessary sick leave if required.
Sick Leave Procedures outside Oman:
Employees must notify their workplace of their illness and the duration of sick leave granted. Upon return, they must provide medical certificates attested by the official medical authorities of the issuing country and certified by the Omani embassy or the Ministry of Health in Oman. If there is an approved doctor at the Omani embassy, their certification suffices.
The university covers treatment expenses and medication costs for employees in the following cases:
On official missions outside Oman.
On scholarship or training courses.
Non-Counting of Sick Leave:
Sick leave is not counted if it coincides entirely with other authorized leave. If part of the sick leave overlaps with the end of authorized leave, only the excess period is counted. If sick leave is due before starting authorized annual leave, the annual leave is postponed.
Converting Sick Leave to Annual Leave:
Employees may request to convert their sick leave to annual leave if they have sufficient balance.
