Employees whose contracts are terminated or who resign after completing 24 months or more of employment, and who give the required 6 months notification prior to leaving, are eligible to receive:
An air ticket to their permanent residence.
Baggage allowance.
A gratuity of one month’s basic salary for each full year of employment.
If the resignation or termination occurs in the middle of an employment year (calculated from the employee’s initial hire date), the gratuity is prorated on a monthly basis for the partial year. For example, if an employee has worked for 34 months, they would receive a gratuity of 2 and 10/12 months' basic salary.
Periods of leave without pay, particularly if they are extensive, are not counted in gratuity calculations.
Employees who complete less than 24 months of employment and give the required 6 months notification prior to leaving are not eligible for any gratuity but do receive airfare home and baggage allowance.
Employees who do not give 6 months notification of their intention not to renew a contract or to resign in the middle of a contract will not receive gratuity, airfare, or baggage allowance.
Exceptions may be made in extraordinary circumstances such as documented health problems or other emergencies requiring sudden departure.
Note: When an employee gives 6 months notification of resignation or intent not to renew a contract and the contract expiration/resignation date is in late summer, the university may request the employee to leave one or two months earlier to free up housing resources or for other reasons. If the employee agrees to leave early at the university's request, they would still be eligible for gratuity, airfare, and baggage allowance, but would not be paid salary for periods not covered by annual leave.
➡️Example: An employee resigns effective August 25th but plans to leave on July 25th by using up their remaining 30 days of annual leave. If the university requests that they leave on June 25th instead, the employee, in accepting this request, would agree to receive one month less salary than if they left on July 25th.
