The Students with Special Needs Committee is an integral part of the CPS. It is dedicated to fostering an inclusive educational environment. This committee focuses on developing, reviewing, and implementing policies and practices that support the academic success and campus life of students with special needs. By collaborating closely with various departments and faculty, the committee ensures that these students receive the necessary accommodations and resources to fully participate in and benefit from their educational experiences at the CPS. The committee's work not only enhances accessibility but also promotes an understanding of diversity and inclusion within the academic community.
The committee is chaired by the Deputy Director for Academic Programs and includes the following members:
A standing member
One faculty representative from each department
Social Worker
AU representative
Develop and review policies and practices related to students with special needs, making recommendations for necessary changes.
Assess existing services and resources available to students with special needs and suggest improvements.
Provide support and advice to the standing member as needed.
Decide on flexibility in the completion of academic assignments and modifications in assessment criteria for students with special needs.
Develop and review action plans, reports, and proposals concerning students with special needs.
Collaborate with the Curriculum Committee to ensure curricula are appropriate for students with special needs.
Ensure that professional development opportunities related to managing students with special needs are available to CPS faculty.
Chair committee meetings in the absence of the Deputy Director.
Update and maintain records of documents discussed during committee meetings.
Archive all documentation and minutes from the committee meetings.
Oversee the implementation of decisions made by the committee.
Maintain communication with the Department of Students with Disabilities.
Coordinate with the Deanship of Admission and Registration and the CPS Registration Department on the registration processes for students with special needs.
Work with the Assessment Unit to adapt test policies and procedures for students with special needs.
Liaise with the computer technician responsible for the visually impaired lab in the CPS to facilitate material transfer and exam accommodations.
Communicate with Course Leaders regarding academic issues affecting students with special needs.
Collaborate with the Student Support Committee to provide tailored academic assistance to students with special needs.
Organize regular meetings with students to monitor and address their needs.
Coordinate and organize activities that support students with special needs.
Manage specific projects related to the well-being of students with special needs.
Facilitate campus life for students with various disabilities to ensure their full participation and access to CPS facilities.
Educate students about the resources available to enhance their utilization of the centre's facilities.
Prepare an annual report on the activities of the committee and submit it to the Chair.
