Monday 2nd September 2024 - On a warm dry evening we had enough dancers for 3 squares and, while we were all together in the Main Hall during the early part of the night, Trudy taught all the Students to "Grand Square". Simon then took the "Intermediate" Students to the Dining Hall while Trudy taught our "Newbies" to "Chain down the line" and "Circle to a line". We were pleased to welcome back our Treasurer, David, not yet dancing because he is still recovering from his recent surgery, but he enjoyed chatting with everyone and doing some admin. In celebration of his birthday later this week, David brought along a tub of chocolates for everyone to share and we all sang "Happy Birthday" to him.
On Thursday 5th September, Members from Waggoners Square Dance Club encouraged others to try Square Dancing at the “Live Longer Better in Hertfordshire Celebration Day” held at Hertfordshire University.
Monday 9th September - Trudy was away visiting her Mum so Simon called to all club members in the main hall. He alternated tips for Everyone with tips for the Intermediate group and Mainstream.
Penny reinforced the teaching of Wheel and Deal in a patter for the Intermediate group and then incorporated it into a singing call " More than a friend to me"
Everyone was very pleased to see David back from having had an operation to remove a kidney, but shocked to hear that Janet was now in hospital.
The club all sent their best wishes to Janet by signing their names for the insert of a card that Sue was going to create and post.
The evening closed with Simon and Penny singing a duet "Fly Me to the Moon"
Monday 16th September - Trudy took the Intermediate group down to the small hall to teach "single hinge/couples hinge", "put centres in" "cast off 3/4" and "couples trade"
In the main hall, Simon called Mainstream and when calling for Everyone taught the newer dancers "step to an ocean wave" "run" and "All eight circulate"
After the break Penny called Mainstream using the singing call " A world of our own"
Midway through the evening David arrived and announced the good news that Janet was home from hospital.
Monday 23rd September - Everyone danced in the Main Hall. Simon and Trudy taught the moves "Turn Thru", "Scoot Back" and "Tag the Line" to the Intermediate group
Working with the Intermediate group, Penny recapped the moved "Put Centres In" and "Cast Off 3/4" before the singing call "Puff the Magic Dragon".
Monday 30th September - In Trudy and Simon's absence, Penny and David shared the calling this evening. It was David's first time calling since his operation last month so he felt a bit out of practice. To celebrate her return to Waggoners (although not yet feeling fit enough to dance) Janet brought along some mini Mars and Twirl chocolates for everyone to share. During the break we sang "Happy Birthday" to Glenys who is celebrating her special day this week.
