Dancing to Penny

Monday 1st August - On a warm evening we danced three squares to Trudy and Simon. Both David and Penny performed a guest tip each, David completing his tip with the singing call "I'm Busted" with the updated words he composed himself and Penny with "Que Sera, Sera" which had us all joining in the chorus.

Monday 8th August - Another warm evening and, as we have not had any rain for several weeks, the grass in the fields around St Joseph's is very hay-like. We danced two squares to Trudy and Simon and revised the move "Pass to the Centre". Vicki L brought along various chocolate biscuits to share in honour of her birthday this week.

Monday 15th August - Another warm evening and, as well as enjoying social time together, we danced two squares to Trudy and Simon. David was guest caller and debuted his singing call "Under the Boardwalk". As we were short of ladies tonight, David C donned a pink sash and danced "lady" with David H. Towards the end of the evening, Trudy said that she could hear rain falling on the stage's roof. Although it meant that we got wet returning to our cars to go home, the rain was a very welcome end to the drought in our area.

Friday 19th August - Due to the forecast of thunderstorms and heavy rain in the area, we postponed our picnic at Wodson Park from Wednesday 17th to Friday 19th. As it turned out it was a wise decision because the rain arrived on Wednesday afternoon with reports that a whole month's rain fell in three hours causing localised flooding. Unfortunately, the change of date meant that many members were unable to attend so only Trudy, Simon, Bob, Penny, Christine, Barry,  John B, Janet and David turned up. It was pointed out that we had enough people for a square plus a caller! In the event, we spent a happy couple of hours together in the sunshine, chatting and eating our picnics.

Monday 22nd August - SUMMER HOEDOWN - Along with our own Club members, we were pleased to welcome dancers from Tudor Squares, past members and some people who just wanted to enjoy an evening of Square Dancing, often for the first time. Trudy and Simon taught the moves from the very beginning with a "Circle Left" but soon had everyone doing "Swings", "Promenades", "Dosidos" etc. before teaching a "Grand Slide" and even to "Pair Off" (which is a move from the Advanced programme. We danced four squares for every tip except those for the more experienced dancers when we had two squares on the floor. We served chocolate cakes and biscuits during the break and squash was available throughout the evening which was most welcome on a very warm night.

Monday 29th August - BANK HOLIDAY - Club closed
