Monday 5th August 2024 - On a warm evening we had the doors leading to the playground open and danced to Trudy and Simon. We had two squares for Mainstream and all eight of our "Intermediates" were with us tonight. Only one of our July 2024 Students was able to come to Waggoners this evening but our Callers made sure there were plenty of suitable Tips for her to join in and she was shown how to "Split the outside two". Our "Intermediates" revised "Reverse Flutterwheel", "Extend", "Wheel and Deal (from two-faced lines)" and "Box the Gnat". They were introduced to simple "Trades" and to "Sweep a Quarter" after "Flutterwheel".
The drive leading down to the School was resurfaced last week and we all noticed how smooth the final part of our journey to Waggoners had become.
Monday 12th August 2024 - On a very warm evening when daytime temperatures had exceeded 30C we had floated the idea of dancing on the playground but when we arrived at the School we found that it was cooler in the Main Hall than outside so we danced inside and only opened the doors leading to the playground once it was dark. Many of our dancers had decided to stay at home tonight due to the heat but we still managed to make up two squares and our Students were taught to "Partner Trade". We were very pleased to see Carole B who has not been able to dance with us for several weeks due to visiting her husband in hospital.
Today was the birthday of our founder, and now Honorary, member, Mac, and we all sang to him in the usual manner. As Pat and Mac were dog sitting for their son, they decided to leave early but we joked that it was because he needed the extra time at home to blow out all the candles on his birthday cake!
Monday 19th August 2024 - As David, our Treasurer, underwent a nephrectomy (removal of his kidney) at the weekend and only returned home from hospital late this afternoon, neither he nor Janet (our Secretary) were at Club tonight.
Our thanks go to everyone who took over the jobs Janet and David usually do, especially Michael D and David S for standing in at such short notice and Sue for acting as courier!
There were enough dancers for three squares so Simon went with the Intermediate Students down to the Dining Hall, increased the pace of dancing and taught "Partner Trade", "Trade By", "Touch a Quarter" and "Column Circulate" while also recapping "Wheel and Deal". Trudy was in the Main Hall and taught our two "New" Students "Double Pass Thru Split the Outside 2, Separate Around 1 Hook on the End" as well as "First Couple go Left, Second Couple go Right". The full Mainstream dancers also enjoyed several dedicated Tips.
