October 2024
Monday 7th October 2024 - Harvest Hoedown - We were very pleased to welcome 11 new dancers this evening who were all eager to give Square Dancing a go. Trudy and Simon introduced them to the basics and they were all soon dancing alongside our Mainstream dancers and all of our Students.
Saturday 12th October 2024 -
Waggoners 50th Birthday Cream Tea Dance - See page Waggoners 50th Birthday Celebration Tea Dance for more photos and an account of the event.
Monday 14th October 2024 - Trudy was visiting her mother in Dorset this evening so Simon called for us on his own and we had enough dancers for three squares with a few spares. The "Intermediate" Students were taught how to "Split Circulate", "Box Circulate", "Fold" and "Cross Fold" while the newer dancers were shown the moves "Pass the Ocean", "Extend" and "Box the Gnat" with Simon explaining that the former move "Swat the Flea" was now called "Left Box the Gnat". Towards the end of the night Simon called a "Hot Hash" Tip for our more experienced Mainstream dancers. We sang "Happy Birthday" to Ron P who is celebrating later this week.
Monday 21st October 2024 - We had three squares dancing to Trudy and Simon this evening with Tips for everyone alternating with Tips aimed specifically at our "Intermediate" Students. They only have a few more moves left to learn until they complete the SSD programme - many of these Students will be attending the SDCCGB 70th Birthday event in St Ives, Cambridgeshire, over the weekend 1st - 3rd November and Trudy and Simon are making sure that they are familiar with all the SSD moves.
After a break socialising with each other and enjoying (appropriately named) "Wagon Wheels" at 9.00 p.m. we held our Annual General Meeting when, after hearing reports from our Chairman, Bob, and Treasurer, David, we elected our 2024 - 2025 Committee.
Monday 28th October 2024 - The evening started dry but, by the time we all went home, it poured with rain. We had two squares dancing this evening to Trudy and Simon with guest tips from David and Penny who were using this last opportunity of a last bit of practice before the Square Dance Callers Club of Great Britain 70th Birthday Celebration in St Ives, Cambridgeshire. Our "Intermediate" Students were shown the last moves they needed before they completed the SSD (Social Square Dancing) programme: "Half Tag"; "Alamo Ring" - how to form an "Alamo Ring" and then how to "Swing Thru" in it; "Separate Go Round One, Come Into the Middle". Some of our "Intermediates" are attending the SDCCGB celebration and will now be able to dance in the majority of the sessions.
In recognition of Halloween later this week, David S brought along a ghostly balloon and wore a spooky decoration with "BOOH!" on it, made for him by his daughter, Faye.
