On a warm evening we were pleased to welcome 10 people who wanted to try Square Dancing and we were able to dance four squares for most of the night. To add to the variety of the evening we were taught "Grand Blossom", "Pair Off" (from the Advanced programme) and "Walk and Dodge" - using backwards walking!
As Trudy will be celebrating an "0" birthday later this week she brought along a tub of chocolates for everyone to share and, on behalf of the members, our Chairman, Bob, presented her with a card, gift cake and a box of chocolates.
Despite it being the hottest day of the year, throughout the evening there were generally two squares on the floor when Tips were called for “Everyone”. Penny revised the moves known to the newer dancers, recapping in more detail the most recent moves “Split the outside two” and “Separate” before introducing the students to “Extend”
Halfway through the evening the Club members were entertained by David S with a full Mainstream singing call, for which he accompanied himself on his ukulele. This was followed by a short quiz to name some Square Dance moves.
With several Club members being on holiday, and others looking forward to having one later in the year, Penny chose to end the evening with a tip for everyone using the song “ We’re all going on a Summer Holiday”.
Our thanks go to Penny for her hard work in preparing and running the evening on her own, to David S for his entertainment and locking up at the end, to Michael for acting as Treasurer and to everyone who gave their support.
