Monday 1st December 2025 - Christmas Social Meal at Wodson Park
31 members and their partners went for a Christmas meal at Wodson Park in Ware.
After the main course the Committee joined David S at the front of the room, singing the chorus to "Fulsome Christmas News" - a song for which David wrote the lyrics to the tune of Johnny Cash's "Folsom Prison Blues". Once everyone had seen a demo of the chorus, they were invited to join in with the singing. Other entertainment was a "Bob and Penny" quiz devised by Michael D and a picture quiz and "Irish Bingo" game from Julie.
Debbie, the Wodson Park chef, will be retiring soon and, in recognition of the many years we have enjoyed her meals, Bob, our Chairman, presented her with a basket of flowers.
Friday 5th December - Monday 8th December 2025 - Barbara, David C, Janet and David H went to a Festive Weekend at the Trouville Hotel in Sandown, Isle of Wight and had a lovely time dancing to Di Green and other guest callers.
Monday 8th December 2025 - With Simon at the hospital with a very poorly Trudy, Penny and David stepped in as late replacement callers. We had two squares, with a few spares, dancing in the festively decorated Dining Hall.
Monday 15th December 2025 - Simon was back calling for us this evening and gave the report that, although still poorly and in hospital, Trudy was showing signs of improvement and they were looking forward to her being discharged in the near future. Penny and David were thanked for stepping in at the last minute on the 8th December.
In celebration of her "big" birthday in a couple of weeks, Iris brought cakes for everyone to share and we sang to her in the usual way.
Monday 22nd December 2025 - Christmas Party Night
Although the School had already taken down their Christmas decorations in readiness for the new term starting in January, Janet and David brought along a couple of mini Christmas trees and various other ornaments to brighten up the Dining Hall. Simon told us that Trudy was now out of hospital and was recovering at home so he called for us on his own with Penny and David each giving us a Christmas singing call. We also had the good news that Alan was recovering well from his pubic bone fracture at his son's house in Chelmsford. We hope it will not be too long before we see both Trudy and Alan back with us again.
Marion and Mick, Muriel and Penny brought along 6 of their grandchildren who were all extremely well behaved and joined in with two basic tips called by Simon. David S produced his trusty bag of balloons and had soon made balloon dogs complete with leads. Besides the dancing there were also a Christmas quiz, a picture quiz, a game of "Sit down if..." and a "heads or tails" elimination game. During the break David, our Treasurer and Christmas Cook, heated up mince pies, custard and winter punch which were then served to the members by Committee members Janet, Julie and Sue. At the end of the evening we all wished each other a Merry Christmas.
