Monday 7th February 2022 - Neither Trudy nor Andrew could be with us tonight as they were both busy elsewhere, so Simon called for us on his own. We danced three squares and had a fun evening with several of the ladies swapping in and out of dancing "lady" or "man".
During the evening we sang "Happy Birthday" to Petra who will be celebrating her birthday tomorrow. When asked how she would be spending the day, Petra told us that she is being treated to High Tea at the West Lodge Park Hotel in Cockfosters. We look forward to hearing all about it!
During the evening Simon introduced us to "Substitute" which was a sort of backwards "Dive Thru". At one time this move was included in the Mainstream Programme but is now, with more variations, in "C1".
This evening David H, Michael, Julie, David S and Penny took part in our annual Open Mic Night. David H led the way with patter he had written himself to "Kayla Rae" followed by "I'm Busted" with everyone joining in the tag line. Next up was Michael who was making his debut as a caller and we were all very impressed. He had written the patter himself and this was delivered to "Rock Island Ride". Our first lady caller of the evening was Julie who, although she has taken part in Open Mic Nights at other clubs, was making her Waggoners debut. In her lovely voice, Julie chose as her singing call "Country Roads" with a lot of us joining in this familiar John Denver song. (Unbelievably this song is now over fifty years old!) After the break, when we enjoyed chocolate rolls, David S took to the stage. As he has done on previous years, David had written the patter himself and this was delivered to "Music Box Dancer". He then picked up his electric ukulele and accompanied himself to the Jerry Lee Lewis song, "Great Balls of Fire", with us all joining in with "Goodness, Gracious, Great Balls of Fire!" Our final guest caller of the evening was Penny. We are a talented Club and again Penny had written her own patter which she performed to "There's Garland". To complete her Tip Penny chose as her singing call, "Maybe it's because I'm a Londoner". Although in Penny's case this isn't strictly speaking true, we all joined in with the words as we danced.
Our thanks go to Trudy and Simon for their help and support in the organisation of this fun event for the Club.
