Monday 2nd March 2026 - Simon called for us this evening, with guest tips from Penny and David, and we had two squares. In advance of Mick's birthday next week, Marion baked cakes which they shared with the members. Jenny, who will be celebrating a "significant" birthday later this week, brought along a large box of chocolates which she also shared.
We are looking forward to our Hoedown next Monday, held in connection with the Angela Rippon "Let's Dance" event this coming Sunday
Monday 9th March 2026 -
Let's Dance Hoedown
We were pleased to welcome visitors who had come along to try Square Dancing with us.
For more photos and information see page "Let's Dance Hoedown".
Monday 16th March 2026 - Penny brought along her Harry Preston Award to show to the members.
We are very proud to have had five callers from Waggoners win the Harry Preston Award: Trudy Fielding, Simon Fielding, Andrew Agathangelou, David Hewitt and now Penny Warner.
Monday 23rd March 2026 - Simon called for us tonight with guest tips from David and Penny. At the beginning of the evening we only had enough dancers for one square plus 7 spares so, rather than have these sit out, we danced with a ghost to much amusement. After a while a few more members arrived so for most of the evening we had two squares.
David C arrived wearing a fez following a conversation he had recently had with another member - we didn't ask!
Monday 30th March 2026 - Open Mic Night and E.G.M. - David opened the Open Mic Night with a patter call to Cajun Cabbage with Penny W completing the Tip with the singing call, Wouldn't it be Lovely? Julie followed with a singing call, Country Roads, using the figure from the record. Michael D then performed a patter call to Minor Breakdown, using choreography he had worked out by himself. Helen P came next, making her debut at an Open Mic Night, using figures worked out for her by Simon to Alpine Hoedown.
After a break for the notices and refreshments, when Penny and Bob W served tea and coffee to the members alongside buttered Hot Cross Buns, we held an Extraordinary General Meeting to update some items on the Club's Constitution and Bylaws and to elect Marion and Mike D to the Committee following the resignation of Gill S. All items put to the members were unanimously passed.
We also sang the Happy Anniversary song to Trudy and Simon, who will be celebrating early next month.
During the second half of the evening Muriel W took the Mic and, making her second appearance at an Open Mic Night, performed a whole Tip with a patter call to Splodge, for which Simon had pre-written the figures, and a singing call to Top of the World, for which Trudy had written the choreography.
Any gaps during the evening, either patter or singing calls, were filled in by Trudy and Simon and at the end they gave us a couple of duets: A Love Song and Rolling with the Flow.
