The second of the celebrations for our 50th came on the 4th November, our actual birthday, when over 40 members and former members went for a meal at Wodson Park Sports Centre in Ware. Our birthday cake, depicting the Waggoners banner, was ceremonially cut by Pat and Mac who joined Waggoners on the first night in 1974 and have been members of the Club ever since – they still dance with us on Monday nights. Pat is our current Vice-Chair, served as our Secretary for over 30 years, and Mac is a former Chairman who in the past drove the coach on numerous Club holidays and outings. During the evening we were entertained by a close-up magician, Nic Picot, a member of the Magic Circle, who had us in fits of laughter while at the same time leaving us puzzled by how he had performed all of the illusions.
At the end of the evening, after thanking the Wodson catering and other staff, Bob, our Chairman, gave special mention to his wife, Penny, who had made most of the arrangements for the evening, ensuring that everything ran smoothly which had been quite a task. He wished us all a safe journey home and said he looked forward to seeing everyone at St Joseph’s very soon.
