Great Dual Sport Adventure in the Sequoia Forests

October 4th 2014

This is a 2 or 3 day dual sport ride based in Kernville California

Pics from last time we did a ride in this area (2007)

The region around Lake Isabella has great dual sport riding. The area includes the Sequoia Forests with the spectacular giant trees, the Kern River Valley with great singletrack trails, the Breckenridge Mountains with scenic forest roads and trails, the Piute Mountains overlooking the Mojave Desert and of course famous Kennedy Meadows. There are many fantastic rides here from scenic to challenging.

I have put together 5 rides to cover this area:

    • 2 rides are scenic in nature and rated easier or more relaxed, these ride are good for people just wanting a relaxed forest adventure or for beginning riders. “ Sequoia Big Tree Ride1 and Breckenridge Lookout Ride2” (These ride include a lunch stop!)

    • 1 ride is rated intermediate with some optional harder singletrack sections. Rider can choose the level of difficulty. “Kern River Trail Ride 3”

    • 2 rides are “Tuff Guy” rated, these include a lot of singletrack and some of it can be challenging. You should be an advanced rider or an intermediate rider prepared to work for it. “Piute Mountain Ride4 and Cannell Tr Kennedy Mdws Ride 5” (Bring lots of WATER and your Lunch)

FAQ's

Q:What will the weather be like this time of year?

A: In early October the weather is likely great. Too soon for snow in the mountains and still not too hot in the valleys. But sometimes there can be rain. Some years the snow in the mountains is a problem. Snow can force us to change our routes. Come prepared with extra gear for cold and wet.

Q: Would this be a good Noobs Ride?

A: Yes rides there are two scenic rides that are rated easy, and there are options on a third ride which could work well for new riders

Q; What do I do if I don't have a garmin gps?

A: Buy one, you need it, we will show you how to use it. You can get a great one for under $200 bucks. ( See gpsKevin's gps recommendations)

Q: Is the riding really on my own?

A: Yes, of course you are responsible for your own riding, but almost everyone hooks up and rides with a friend, or a new friend.

Q: What bike will gpsKevin be riding?

A: I will be taking my Yamaha WR250R (Yes Mrs Centers)
