Peg Leg Smith Riders Contest 2014
Peg Leg Smith Riders Contest
March 29th and 30th 2014
Dual Sport Riding and Family Camping in the Anza Borrego Desert
This is a two day dual sport ride around the Anza Boreggo Desert to explore the back corners that few people see. So what is the contest? I honer of Peg Leg Smith, it is to see who can complete all three rides in only two days. Will we have any riders that will be liars or just a few that will tell tall tales?
The rides begins early Saturday morning and end Sunday afternoon. Many may want to come out Friday night. All the ride will have gps files and paper maps.
We will have a group camping area starting on Friday evening for those planning to come out camping. The camping area is good for little kids to ride around, but older kids may find it limiting because it is a small area unless you have a Dual Sport Licence.
If you would like to stay in a motel near the camp I recommend: Palm Canyon Resort in Borrego Springs
Visit the Meetup page to signup for the ride.
And bring Hors d'oeuvre to Share on Saturday
And Bring Firewood for the evening campfire.

OK since many of you might like to study more detail about the ride, below are the ride maps.
I put these ride maps on the web page because I know a few of you love looking at the ride detail and dreaming about the ride. At first glance these maps do not look so impressive, but they are way cool. If you click the Earth or Satellite tab and start zooming in, you can see the ride in incredible detail. I have spent a ton of hours sorting through the details of the ride for each day, so for those of you that enjoy this sort of thing, well enjoy!
Legend:
The Red lines are Harder routes
The Blue lines are main routes
The Green lines are easy options
Below is the gps files download for the ride, but you have to know the right file depending on your GPS type. If you have an older or newer gps the file do not work with each other (bad job garmin) and I don't have a complete list based on model numbers. So sometimes you just have to try both file until you find the one that works. Here is what I know:
Old Style GPS:
Garmin 60s, 60csx, all 60s
Garmin 76, 76csx, all 76s
Etrex legend, vista,
Older Nuvi's, too many to list:
New Style GPS:
Etrex, 10, 20, 30s
gpsmap78
Nivi, 20, 30
Ok so choose the right download and try it in your gps.
GPS download Old Style files for the ride
GPS download New Style files for the ride
Note: In the Download window, from the file menu, select FIle:Download. That will get you everything.
To install your Custom Garmin Ride Map, get a blank SD card, and copy the folder "garmin" to the card. Then just put the card into your gps and the map should be there when you turn your gps on. Go to the map page and select menu, then setup map, then you should see and be able to select the ride maps.
In addition the download will have the jpg files of the handout pape maps, you can print your own maps.
Ok cool, if you have trouble I can set up your gps at the ride. gpsKevin
