Southern California 6 Days Explorer

SOCAL 6 Days Explorer

This ride follows roughly along the Pacific Crest Trail from the Mexico border heading north and then cuts across the coastal mountains and follows the Pacific Ocean south again. The ride is 6 days long and covers about 1500 miles. It covers some of the best routes in Southern California.

We will be spending each evening in a motel and eating in restaurants. So no need to bring any camping stuff.

The ride starts and ends in San Juan Capistrano. (Southern LA)

The ride will include parts:

San DIego County

Cleveland National Forest

Riverside County

San Jacinto National Forest

Idyllwild

San Bernardino National Forest

Big Bear

Angeles National Forest

Tehachapi

Sequoia National Forest

Lake Isabella

Coalinga

Fort Hunter Liggett

Los Padres National Forest

Pacific Coast Highway

Pismo State Beach

And the Beach Cities of LA

Manhattan Beach

Venice Beach

Wow Really!

This ride is designed for the intermediate level Adventure Rider on big bikes. There are harder and easy options.

OK since many of you might like to study more detail about the ride, below are the ride maps.

I put these ride maps on the web page because I know a few of you love looking at the ride detail and dreaming about the ride. At first glance these maps do not look so impressive, but they are way cool. If you click the Earth or Satellite tab and start zooming in, you can see the ride in incredible detail. I have spent a ton of hours sorting through the details of the ride for each day, so for those of you that enjoy this sort of thing, well enjoy!

FAQs:

Q:Can I do this ride on a dual sport bike?

A: Yes, like a DRZ 400 would be great, there is not much stuff that will be over 60mph, most is slower. NO problem.

Q: What gear do I need to bring:

A: Be prepared for weather extremes, we could see cold and rain in the mountains and hot in the Valleys. Bring Rain Gear.

Q: I am a fairly new rider, Is it possible for me to join the ride?

A: Yes: but depending on your ability you may be asked to take the easier options

Q: I am new to gps and unsure of my ability to Navigate, can I hook up with someone during the ride?

A: Yes, everyone is encouraged to ride together with others. There are many helpful people that will ensure you are not lost or left.

GPS download for the ride

Note: In the Download window, Select the down arrow in the top middle of the screen. That will get you everything.

To install your Custom Garmin Ride Map, get a blank SD card, and copy the folder "garmin" to the card. Then just put the card into your gps and the map should be there when you turn your gps on.

Note the download includes a jpg file for printing your own paper map: Folder "8x10 Map Prints"

FAQ: What garmin folder? The folder named garmin should have the "gmapsupp.img" file inside. If you just downloaded the "gmapsupp.img" file, then you need to create a folder on your SD card named "garmin" and put the "gmapsupp.img" file inside it.
