SD County Scooter Pre Rie

San Diego County Scooter Pre-Ride

One day ride April 18 2015

Join us for this test ride around San Diego County to experience 1/16 of what it could be like to ride your scooter across the United States

This ride is for those riders that are planning or are simply interested in the Scooters Across America ride this summer. Anyone is welcome to join this ride to simply experience what these longer distance rides are like. Riders that are planning to do the cross country trip are encouraged to come and test your equipment.

The ride will start and end in Escondido. at the Stone Brewing Company. The ride is 239 miles and will require about 8 hours of riding moving time. The ride will include a mix of routes similar to the planned trans america routes. Including back highways, remote streets, mountain passes, twisties, ans some city stop and go traffic.

Yes of course all back paved roads, no freeways (true all the way across america).

We will have some fun along the way with a lunch stop planned at the Paradise Cafe and ride review meeting after the ride at the Stone Brewing Company.

Riders can join this ride and simply follow along in ride groups, or many can treat this as a GPS test ride also. I will be giving out GPS cards for your Garmin GPS and helping riders setup and use their units. As in the real ride, the GPS will include the rider meetup or check-in points called Ride Donuts. This is just part of the fun that allows riders a little more freedom to ride at their own pace and experience the ride in their own way.

OK since many of you like to study more detail about the ride, below is the ride map.

I put these ride maps on the web page because I know a few of you love looking at the ride detail and dreaming about the ride. At first glance these maps do not look so impressive, but they are way cool. If you start zooming in, you can see the ride in incredible detail. I have spent a ton of hours sorting through the details of the ride, so for those of you that enjoy this sort of thing, well enjoy!

FAQs

Q: If I am coming from out of the county and want to truck my scooter to the ride, where can I leave my truck for the day.

A: You can leave your vehicle in the parking area at Stone Brewery

Download the GPS and Handout Map for the ride

Note: In the Download window, Select the down arrow in the top middle of the screen. That will get you everything.

To install your Custom Garmin Ride Map, get a blank SD card, and copy the folder "garmin" to the card. Then just put the card into your gps and the map should be there when you turn your gps on.

Note the download includes a jpg file for printing your own paper map: Folder "8x10 Map Prints"

FAQ: What garmin folder? The folder named garmin should have the "gmapsupp.img" file inside. If you just downloaded the "gmapsupp.img" file, then you need to create a folder on your SD card named "garmin" and put the "gmapsupp.img" file inside it.
