Everyone is Invited (YA No 72)

Jesus is one who always turned things upside-down;

He gave some hope to outcasts who, in their despair, could drown;

He taught a different way;

A rebel of his day -

He spoke of universal dignity which caused dismay.

This story tells of many invitations sent

To proper citizens who were of suitable descent;

Not an emphatic - No!

As to a hostile foe –

They said they might attend but then they all refused to go.

As preparations for the feast were all in place,

This angry host continued on, to counter this disgrace;

He sent his servants out;

“Invite the poor, dropout;

If they’re surprised make sure they know and leave them in no doubt.”

Jesus put people first and not religious law;

His hospitality was open to the outcast, poor;

Telling of God’s rich grace,

For all the human race

He is a living proof of God’s eternal deep embrace.
