God's Kingdom (Vol 2 No 75)

When Jesus taught in Galilee

His message was quite new;

He said God’s kingdom had arrived;

“It now belongs to you.”

He loved the children of his day;

He sat them on his knees;

“God’s kingdom, you should understand,

Belongs to such as these.”

When Jesus taught in Galilee

His message was quite clear;

“The time has come.  I bring Good News.

God’s Kingdom has come near.”

It is for those with heavy loads

He said, “I bring relief.

God’s Kingdom comes to offer hope

To those who have belief.”

If Jesus came to us to today

What might his message be?

It may just be the same as then

With pow’r and urgency.

God’s Kingdom still belongs to those

Who suffer for the right;

To those who work for truth and peace

And in these find delight.

God’s Kingdom is, as Jesus said,

Within humanity;

It is uncovered when we love

And strive for equity;

God’s Kingdom is both here and now

Whenever truth prevails;

When we allow God’s rule to come

It’s true - Love never fails.
