With whom did Jesus eat? (Vol 3 No 49)

What would we think of Jesus now?

What would we think today

If Jesus walked the streets of town?

If Jesus came our way?

Befriending ‘sinners’ was his style;

He did not measure blame;

But many of the Pharisees

Were quick to judge and shame.

He ate with ‘sinners’ – those unclean

Who did not keep the law;

By doing so he too became

Unclean - one to abhor!

He also ate with thieves and rogues;

The ones who worked for Rome;

With tax collectors, sinful rich;

Shared meals within their home.

For Jesus, table fellowship

Was how he opened wide

The call to uncondit’nal love;

He left not one outside.

Let us take heed of Jesus’ style,

With whom he shared a meal;

He always used each time and place

To share his love with zeal.
