Questions (Vol 1 No 59)
Where is God? It is the yearning
That we have when life is cruel.
Where is God when darkness triumphs,
Hurt and torment seem to rule?
Where is God when tension rises?
Pressure, stress, demands close in?
Noise and hurry claim life’s effort,
But we never seem to win.
Where is God when we are grieving?
Sad when loved ones leave us here?
When we long for those departed?
Sigh a sigh and cry a tear.
Failing years and lonely hours,
Sickness, sadness, grief and gloom -
Where is God? The cry unheeded,
Echoes through the empty room.
Are there answers? Is there comfort?
Is there peace or endless strain?
Where is God to sooth our aching?
Is there One to ease the pain?
God may not prevent the torment,
Nor the overwhelming pain,
But our God shares in our anguish;
Christ has been there. He was slain.
In quiet moments of reflection
Strength may visit and remain;
Naught can come between our being
And God’s love. It will sustain.
