Surrealist Collage & Painting

Artist Statement

Describe: The artwork is based off of a collage I made of pictures I cut out of a magazine. The collage is the one on the left and my drawing is the one on the right. There's a lady in the center with an astronaut helmet on. I used many magazines, watercolor, and acrylic. I chose this specific artwork because I wanted to make a collage with a lot of pictures that could maybe be connected to each other if you look long enough.

Analyze: I used lines and color. I guess I also used some centering with the lady at the bottom. My project changed because I changed some pictures from the collage. I kind of just used the frame and shape of some pictures but changed what it was of.

Evaluate: My piece is kind of talking about some issues in our world today. It's kind of for people to interpret themselves, but my idea was that the quote at the very top right corner that says "Some things never change" is actually false because then there's a fist representing the protests that have changed many situations. There's also disabled men playing soccer and there's a quote that says "Shooting at targets instead of each other."
