Imperfections

Happy Freckles

7.5" x 10.5"

Following in my inquiry question about imperfections, I wanted to make something about freckles. For some reason people always dislike their freckles. Most of the people I know try to cover them up, but a couple people, like my friend Charlotte, loves and flaunts them. I think everyone should be this way and appreciate the little imperfections they have. I decided to make a cartoon monster with freckles that are smiling back at him.

I used acrylic paint, black marker, paint sticks, and white gel pens to make this cartoon. I started off by drawing a sketch. I painted it in with dark colors in the background and traced all lines with a think black marker. I went in and added details like the fur on the monster and the stars in the sky.

I think this project was lacking a lot of experimentation. I've drawn cartoon-like characters before and I've used all of the same materials before. I did experiment with darker colors and the texture on the monster, but I think I could have definitely been more creative in my process. I think I could use the space a little better in the first part and maybe could have experimented with a different perspective. Overall, I don't really like the end product because it didn't really stretch my experimentation and it looks unfinished.
