Online Class

For my last sustained investigation I was inspired by my online classes that I've been taking due to COVID-19. I replicated the layout of one of our Google Meet calls where we usually have class discussions and instruction. Each student has their camera on and their name underneath.

I used a digital sketch app, an iPad, and my finger as a stylus to make this. I first had to take a picture of one of my online classes so I could copy the layout and some of the ways that students were sitting on camera. I used a straight edge drawing tool on the app to create a border and section it off into the different screens. Then, I did backgrounds first and tried to mimic some of the backgrounds my classmates had. I then used a sort of air-brushed brush to do the people because I didn't want them to be too detailed. The last step was coming up with random names and using a thin white brush to write them in the bottom corner.

Since my topic is about imperfections in life, I thought our current learning situation was a good example. Although we planned for a full normal year lots of unexpected things come up in life. Our online classes are definitely imperfect and have been a lot of trial and error, but everyone's trying their best and we're all coming together. There are definitely always positive ways to look at imperfections in our life and so I wanted to create an art project that sort of reflected that.
