SI #5

Imperfections

Whoops

9" x 8"

For Sustained Investigation #5 I was trying to use a material literally. So, I used lipstick as lipstick. I painted a girl from a sort of 3/4 perspective with short curly hair, green eyeshadow, and really terribly smudged lipstick.

I used watercolor, black marker, green marker, a thin black pen, and red lipstick on bristol paper. I started with pencil and then painted in color with watercolor. I'm not very good at using watercolors yet so it was hard to get an even color and the cheek color was hard for me to get right at first. I like how the hair turned out the most because I like the way the marker I used looks. The part that was the most fun was the lipstick because I did it at the end after I was done with everything and it felt like I was going to ruin it or something.

If I could do it again I think I would add a wash of color to the background and change the color of her eyelids or do something different with how her eyes look. Overall, I like how it turned out and it actually became one of my better ones from the sustained investigation.
