Imperfect Harmony 2

Sustained Investigation #13 is a shelf filled with little objects that all seem random, but aren't. There's a fanny pack, a Steel Strong bracelet, a piggy bank, a lizard, and books etc. They are all painted in bright and solid colors.

This piece was based off of an artist I found on Instagram Tyler Dale. He creates digital work that is very colorful and I was inspired by his shelf series. However, I didn't do mine digitally and instead used acrylic and micron pen. I first sketched out and measured the dimensions which was harder than I thought the get perfect. I then drew in all the objects and then chose colors as I went that I thought go together. I mixed a lot of bright colors to make it pop. My last step was outlining everything. The process was very tedious because each paint color required many layers and I often had to mix paints to create the perfect color.

My friend Ava's birthday was coming up and she asked my friends and I to just make her art. She wanted to hang it up in her room and maybe her dorm in college. I chose to paint objects that were all kind of random, but all reminded me of her. I chose bright bold colors because those are the colors I think about when I think of Ava. I wanted the piece to represent her in a fun way and I didn't just want to paint a picture of her. This also worked for my sustained investigation because it seems like an imperfect array of random objects, but they're actually all related and in harmony.
