Abstract Emotion Design

Artist Statement

We started off the emotion project with a worksheet that had different emotions written on it. Our task was to draw patterns that reflect that emotion. I wish I had tried harder on this part because afterward we had to choose an emotion that we made into a final abstract piece. I was really unsure on what to do and I think I was overthinking it. At first, I painted red orange yellow and purple using watercolor and I was going to draw over it, but I didn't think the idea was good enough so I tried wood burning. I really liked it and decided to use my "anger emotion patterns" to draw a face with a halo looking think around it. The night before the project was due I had only finished burning in the halo part. I started burning the wood to draw the actual face part, but it was really hard and the wood burner wasn't making lines look the way I wanted. I decided to just draw the face with marker. This was a big mistake and I kind of gave up on it looking good and decided I would try the project again later. I probably won't use wood burning the next time, but I actually really liked using it. I was inspired to do the face because I thought it would look the coolest on the wood and I was also inspired by my angry emotion lines.
