WhatchamaDRAWit

When I picked up my whatchamadrawit card from the pile I was praying I'd get something really fun to do. My card said "draw someone with silly eyes, a big nose, and a crazy smile". I was happy because I love drawing people and I like experimenting with different features. I do wish I had thought a little more out of the box with this project, but I still like it. This drawing is a close up of someone's face. Their eyes are strawberries because strawberries remind me of summer and picnics and childlike happiness which I also relate to being silly. I made the bridge of the nose really long and made the "crazy smile" a little squiggly grin. I thought adding the cheeks and the color would make it a little more fun.

I started off by drawing the big nose first and built the rest of the face around it. I used a thin black ink pen for all of the features on the face like the hair, nose, mouth, and drew the shapes before I colored them in. I used pink, green, and yellow gel pens to trace things like the shirt. It was my first time using the new gel pens and I really liked them. I used a red colored pencil for the strawbs and a white gel pen for the seeds.

Since I really hadn't made much art over the summer this drawing was a very basic starting point. I didn't really experiment much, but I did use the new gel pens and I did have to think about how to incorporate the aspects of the whatchamadrawit. My person began as just the idea of a face, but slowly developed her hair. I decided later on that I wanted to add color and a the striped background because it felt like a pretty boring drawing. I think in the future I can definitely put a little more creative thought into it.
