Sculpture #2

Artist Statement

I love noodle soup! I eat it for breakfast a lot and it's like a staple at my house. For a long time my mom has always made it with an egg, some veggies, and chinese noodles. That's why I decided the subject of my second sculpture would be a bowl of noodles that somehow incorporated parts of my childhood and my family. For this project we had to use materials that represented the message in some way and so in the process of making this sculpture I broke a pair of my moms chopsticks in half and ripped up one of her chinese books. Please don't tell her. I used the chinese book pages to make the bowl out of paper mache and that was definitely the most tedious part of my sculpture. I then filled up the bowl with clear glue (where I made the mistake of putting it all in at once and it still hasn't dried) and I added rubber bands as noodles. I cut up an old shirt and used it with some yellow string to make the egg. The other little "vegetable" pieces were pieces of green string and beads from an old butterfly bracelet that I used to wear in like second grade.I like how the actual paper bowl turned out, but if I were to redo it I think I'd be more creative with what I put inside the bowl and make it more interesting to look at or more detailed.
