Artist Statement

This was our last project of 2D and I liked that we circled it back to one of the first projects we did. Everyone was given the same piece of paper with circles on it and we could do whatever we wanted with it. I like projects like this because everyone has some similarity, but all of them turn out really different. I made a girl screaming on one side and she kind of illuminates the circles where I drew 4 different women. I used watercolor and a black marker to make it. I knew I really wanted to draw people in the circles, but I didn't want it to be too boring. I didn't really know where the project was going at first, but in the end it's about how women speaking up for other women kind of brings light to situations and helps one another. I'm not that happy with how it turned out overall, but I do like the idea of the woman screaming with the beam coming out of her. I think it would have been better if I had done different women in each circle and I'm not really sure why I chose to do each line the same and it was actually really hard to freehand faces that looked the same, but I liked the message I was trying to get across and maybe I'll add some more color to the background later!
