The conditions aren't perfect

10" x 7"

For this project I painted a girls head with green symbols representing Covid-19. There's green drips coming from her neck, bubble letters that say "coronavirus", two virus's on her cheeks, and some green squiggles in the right corner.

I first used a pencil and ruler to sketch out the grid in the background and later on I traced over it with black micron pen. I used oil pastels for the face and hair. I wanted to use oil pastels because it's not a medium I'm used to and I wanted to try layering different colors which I sort of did around the eyes, but was too afraid to do on the face and if I could do it over I would try to give more tone to the face. I tried to use contrasting colors to create shadows and highlights. I used a bright green marker for the drips, the virus, and the words in the corner.

I was inspired to do something about the Coronavirus because it's so prevalent in everyone's life right now. Since it seems like it's everywhere and what everyone's talking about or effected by I wanted to overwhelm the portrait with green and coronavirus related things. The expression on the girls face is also kind of sad and the green is on her cheeks, dripping from her head, and above it. I don't really like the end product because I think I could've done a better job with the skin and coloring. I also wish I had created more of a sense of space instead of just a floating head.
