Concentration #1

After making 15ish tiny clay ladybugs, I decided I wanted to change my concentration from ladybugs to plastic. Plastic use is a very important topic right now and I thought that I'd have more inspiration. For my first plastic concentration sculpture, I found 7 bottles of plastic and drilled holes into each one. Then, I made a hand out of aluminum and paper. The hand was so frustrating. At first, I was going to make it out of plastic, but it looked all wonky and like a second grader made it so then I thought about tape or alginate or paper. I ended up ripping little strips and gluing paper onto it. Then I connected the pieces of plastic to the hand in the center by stringing red string through the holes in the plastic and then tying it to the hand. I signed my name into the bottom with red string and then tied it to the plastic too.

When I pictured my project it looked a lot better than it turned out, but I still think it shows my plastic message. There's been a big shift recently in the way people see plastic use. I remember learning about reducing reusing and recycling in elementary school but never thought much about it. It wasn't till a couple months ago when I really realized that every single piece of plastic I touch could maybe end up in the ocean or landfill. It sounds dumb, but I've never really thought about it on a personal level and it's really changed the way I see my shampoo bottles and makeup products and everything!!! I wanted my project to show the connection and responsibility people have to EVERY SINGLE piece of plastic they use.
