Grade 4 Social Studies: The Making of Canada
Welcome to an epic journey through time! In Grade 4 Social Studies, we’ll dive deep into the story of how Canada became the country we call home today. We'll become historical detectives and explorers as we investigate the people and events that shaped our nation.
What You Will Discover:
The Age of Exploration: Travel back to meet famous explorers like Jacques Cartier and Samuel de Champlain as they established the first settlements in North America.
A Growing Nation: Learn how the fur trade brought different cultures together and how the "Fathers of Confederation" negotiated to unite the provinces into one Dominion in 1867.
First Nations Perspectives: We will focus on the unique and essential perspectives of First Nations people, exploring their role as the original inhabitants of this land. You will learn about the nation-to-nation relationships and treaties, such as the Two Row Wampum, that established how to live side-by-side in harmony.
Becoming a Great Citizen: Beyond the history books, we’ll learn what it means to be a responsible citizen today—understanding our rights, such as being treated equally, and our responsibilities to help our communities.
Through research, map-making, and critical thinking, you will become an expert on how the past connects to your world today. Get ready to explore the adventures and challenges that built Canada!
