school closure plans

Week 1

"Down by the bay"

We learned this song last class. You can find the lyrics here. Practice the singing and the rhymes (bear-hair, bee-knee etc.). Try to make more rhymes for different words like: door, dream, bed, book...

Order of parts

Learn the song "The Old Gray Cat". In the song it is important to learn the order of the parts. The lyrics are on the video as it goes, but I put them here as well. Once the song is learned you can learn the movements from the second video. You can send me a video of the student singing the song on my e-mail or upload it to this folder.

Lyrics

1. The old gray cat is sleeping, sleeping, sleeping,

The old gray cat is sleeping in the house.

2. The little mice are creeping, creeping, creeping,

The little mice are creeping through the house.

3. The little mice are nibbling…in the house.

4. The old gray cat comes creeping…through the house.

5. The little mice all scamper…through the house.

Introduction to the groups of musical instruments

31.03.2020

All the musical instruments are divided into 3 big groups. The groups are made according to HOW THE SOUND IS MADE. The 3 groups are WIND, STRING AND PERCUSSION.

All the instruments that make a sound on strings are called STRING instruments.

All the instruments that the sound is made by air are called WIND instruments, in most instruments we need to blow, there are a few that work differently, but for now you need to know that if you blow in the instrument it belongs to the WIND group.

And last but not least is the PERCUSSION group in which are all the instruments that the sound is made by hitting, shaking or scratching. You can hit them with your hands or with a mallet (a special stick to play on drums).

Try to name 1 instrument from each group!

Questions from Peter and the Wolf:

Let's put each instrument from the story in their correct group.

  1. In which group does the VIOLIN belong to?
  2. In which group does the FLUTE belong to?
  3. In which group does the OBOE belong to?
  4. In which group does the BASSOON belong to?
  5. In which group does the CLARINET belong to?
  6. In which group does the KETTLE DRUM (TIMPANI) belong to?
  7. In which group does the FRENCH HORN belong to?

Wiggle and Waggle

Today I have a story for you. Watch and listen to the story, try to remember it so you can tell it yourself.

Video here

How many characters are in the story?

Where was Waggle when Wiggle came to see him? How about the other friend, where did he go?

What did they decide to do next time?

How does the voice go when someone is walking DOWN the hill?

How does the voice go when someone is walking UP the hill?

What is that special word in music that tells us if a sound is HIGH or LOW? - PITCH

Learn to tell the story, if you want you can act it out with a member from the family.

If you loved learning the story, you can send me a video on my email or upload to this folder.

Pitch - Rain, rain

As we learned form the "Wiggle and Waggle" story, pitch tells us if a sound is high or low.

Here I introduce you to the SINGING HAND, the position of the hand tells the pitch.

Try to sing and copy my hands, and make a video doing the singing hand. You can find my video on flipgrid on this link (use the password from the homeroom teacher).

Pitch - Where is . . . ? (song)

Here is another song that we can practice different pitches. Each finger is a character that gets a voice with a different pitch. Listen to my version, copy it or make your own version with different pitched voices. Find a video called "Where is . . ?" on your homeroom teacher's flipgrid. (Ms. Jessica and Ms. Dijana - use the password from the homeroom teacher). Have fun!!!

One finger, one thumb - KEEP MOVING

Here is a fun song that helps students remember the order of the parts of the song. Listen to the song and ask the students to tell the order of the moving parts. Learn to sing the song, and then have fun with the speed. Sing one part slow, one part fast. A video of the song is posted on flipgrid for Ms Jessica's class and Ms Dijana's class

If you want you can watch this youtube video instead of the teacher :) HAVE FUN

Glass xylophone

This week the students will make a type of xylophone with glasses.

Materials needed - 3 glasses, water, a wooden and metal spoon.

The rhythmic pattern 1 - 2 - 333 - 1 - 2 - 333

3 - 2 - 111 - 3 - 2 - 111

The different amount of water makes a different pitch when you hit the glass.Try with 3 different amounts of water, the pitch doesn’t need to be like for do - re - mi, just 3 different pitches - lower, medium and higher pitch.

A video for this assignment is posted on flipgrid for Ms. Jessica’s class and Ms. Dijana’s class.

Reviewing

This week is for reviewing the things we have learned the past 2 months.

Here is a list of all songs and activities that needed to be done. Choose 3 things you liked the best and do them again. Sing the songs, tell the stories, do the activities again.

  • Down by the bay - song
  • The Old Gray Cat - song
  • Peter and the wolf (musical story)
  • The 3 groups of musical instruments
  • Wiggle and Waggle - story
  • Rain, rain - with singing hand (pitch) - song
  • Where is ……? - song
  • One finger, one thumb, keep moving - song
  • Glass xylophone

Final song

Try to learn this song. I made it really short so it is easy for everyone to try to learn it. Here is a video of me singing it (video for Ms Dijana’s class, video for Ms Jessica’s class). Try to sing with me or if you want I made an instrumental version so you can sing it alone (just your voice with the music :)
