Music FORM

The structure (the parts) of a piece of music. Find the complete lesson here.

Watch this video https://youtu.be/D8j8bYeo3Wk about basic music forms to get a basic idea what music form is.

Watch this video https://youtu.be/T5wTqFteQVY to understand better about how the music in the same/different parts takes their role in the piece.

Try to figure out the parts of Claire de Lune by Debussy. Send me the answer by email.

22.04 Reading rhythm

Think about all the types of notes you have learned in your music education. Remember their names, what do they look like, what are the parts they are made of, how long do they last. Do you remember how we read the rhythm with ta - ta?

How about the rests, do you remember those symbols?

Here is a chart where you can review the values (how long they last) and how to read them.

To compare how long they last check out this picture or this one

Try to read this simple rhythm to warm up :)

If you are doing good then read these rhythmic exercises, practice them. Try it 3-4-5 times, or more so that you don’t make mistakes while reading one example.

27.04-30.05

This assignment is about reading rhythm and is posted on google classroom, linked with flipgrid. Read the following exercises, practice them, and when you are ready make a video on flipgrid on which you say which exercise you will be reading and read the rhythm with ta-ta. Even though the exercises are with a melody (not just on one line), it doesn't matter. If the notes are upside down (head up neck down) it doesn't matter. If it’s a half note (empty head and neck) - it’s a half note. If it’s a quarter note (colored head and neck) - it’s a quarter note. Just read the rhythm. I’m showing a video of myself reading one of the exercises.

Here are the exercises.

Those of you who find this easy, will get one more video to make :)

When you make the first video on flipgrid - I’ll check it, and if I say make a second video, you can make a video of yourself reading one of the rhythms of the previous week (one of these).

If you have any questions, first refer to the material posted last week. If you still don’t find the answer, please contact me.

Reading notes by NAME

This assignment is short and sweet - it's about reading notes by pitch. You need to find the name of the note depending on their position on the staff. I've attached a picture of a staff with the names of the notes for a reminder - review them and then get started.

You need to watch the instructional video I have attached in the google classroom assignment and figure out the names of the notes on the following link. Once you are done you need to sign the report and send me the link with your score in google classroom.

13.05 Introducing Chrome Music Lab - song maker.

Make a song, by your own taste. The song needs to be 4 bars of 4 beats long. You can change the instrumentation and the tempo. At the end you need to send the saved link as an attachment to the assignment on google classroom. Watch this video tutorial of how and what you can make, watch ‘till the end :)

Here is the link to the Chrome Music Lab - song maker

18.05

This week students working on Chrome Music Lab - song maker again. This time they are making a 4 bar song with a requirement for a rhythmic pattern. The rhythm on the unpitched instruments on the song maker should repeat in each bar.

27.05

This final assignment will again tickle your creativity :)

Your task is to write your own lyrics to an existing song that you like, meaning, to change the original lyrics. Choose a song from whichever music genre you like (rock, pop, reggae, blues, hip hop, techno, classical, metal . . . ), write YOUR OWN LYRICS to it and then you will perform it using an instrumental/karaoke version of the song.

You don’t need to write lyrics for the whole song, but at least one refrain (minimum), or one verse and one refrain would be the best.

The lyrics should be about your feelings these days. It can be about homeschooling, isolation, Coronavirus, saving the planet, bullying, love or just about your day and your mood. :)

For this assignment you have one week for choosing a song, writing your authentic lyrics and turning them in. After your lyrics have been approved, you will have one more week to record your performance for which you will use the instrumental/karaoke. You will get information for that next week!

Make a video for YOUR song

It’s one thing to write them, and another thing to sing them - to see if they actually fit, if they rhyme , if they sound good. So, play the music (the instrumental/karaoke version of the song) and try to sing your words to the song. Make some adjustments if you need to. When you are happy with the song, make a video, attach it and turn it in. (if it is too big, upload it on drive and then attach it). The videos will not be shared without your permission!

Enjoy your creativity!
